This is the GAP, Banana Republic, and Old
Navy clothing giant based in San Francisco. They were moving
many of their corporate operations to Albuquerque, New Mexico.
ABILTY was contracted to hire, train, and
manage a team of six developers to create procedures training
for approximately 300 new hires in two separate phases.
The project requirements were extremely aggressive: their
own subject matter expert (SME) writers needed to create over
400 training documents in under two months for the first rollout.
The training had to take place in a production
environment, so many traditional training methods could not
be used.
We had to manage the client SMEs as well
as the training effort. All approaches, designs, and documents
had to be created from scratch.
Our charter was to reduce errors on the job. All the business
result standards that were set in the departments we trained
were exceeded: people effectively learned their jobs
using the training we developed.
ABILITY was credited with saving GAP about
$300,000 over the second-choice competitor (Price Waterhouse
Coopers, who would have charged that much more).
The amount of grant money GAP was given
by the State of New Mexico for the training was significantly
higher because of the high quality of the materials we created.
We developed original knowledge objects for one-on-one and
small-group coaching sessions and overview presentations using
Word and PowerPoint. We edited all documents for both training
content and presentation.
We were on budget for phase one, 30% under
budget for phase two. We were a day early for phase one and
a week early for phase two.
